Successful assignments include:
- Mediated sexual harassment complaint with result that “victim” apologized to “harasser” for filing false complaint; both remained employed, no further problems.
- Consulted with HR Director to successfully terminate alcoholic manager.
- Coached CEO to successfully terminate Vice President perceived to be disabled.
- In response to threatened lawsuit, interviewed and conducted focus groups with minority women employees to identify barriers to promotion in company. Result: company changed procedures, no lawsuit filed.
- Investigated to find out why all executive women quit company within one month, and coached executives on interpersonal skills, systems, procedures and opportunities.
- Coached executive accused of inappropriate behavior; CEO reported executive’s behavior completely turned around after two sessions.
- Coached Japanese national Vice President on American workplace norms.
- Conducted internal investigation where employee filed criminal charge against co-worker for rape allegedly on company property.
- Briefed executive group on appropriate humor at company functions; VP of HR reported significant changes in behavior.
- Consulted with HR Director to successfully change culture of swearing at company.
- The executive teams of three separate companies hired three different lawyers to brief them on legal issues and appropriate behavior. All three companies brought me in afterwards to cover the same territory saying they did not learn what they needed to know because the lawyers were overly legalistic. All three VPs of HR reported significant changes in executive behavior.
- Conducted weekly meetings with HR, legal, risk management, payroll, and accounts payable in order to draft a DOL compliant system for hiring contractors that they would implement.
Training Accomplishments
Brought in to re-train all employees in harassment prevention after training by the largest labor law firm in the U.S. tripled the number of frivolous claims filed. Result: frivolous claims eliminated, valid claims reduced by more than 80%.
Trained or supervised training of all managers at Fortune 50 company as part of an initiative that took the company from being under OFCCP consent decree to receiving national recognition as a leader in diversity.
Wrote and delivered more than 600 times a “Managing within the Law” program required for all managers at Cisco, Blue Cross, DuPont, FICO and numerous other large, medium and small businesses, state, county and city departments, and nonprofits.
Successfully delivered (non-law) programs for County of Hawai‘i, Hawai‘i USA Federal Credit Union, and Hawai‘i Department of Education.
Created and presented more than 400 times a “Respectful Workplace – Harassment Prevention” program for employees from housekeepers to CEOs.
Conducted one-on-one training with more than 50 accused harassers.
